BEST OF 2009
Head in the Clouds

Some songs can wisk you away to another time and place for a while and let you forget about your troubles. These are those songs - Camera Obscura, Eels, Handsome Furs and Avett Brothers.

BEST OF 2009
Guilty Pleasures

There are some songs that you just can't help but sing along to, or that get stuck in your head for days, but you don't really want to admit to others (or yourself) that you like. Push away that guilt and instead revel in the pleasure of these catchy gems.

BEST OF 2009
Fuzz Out

Sometimes you just need to fuzz-out, and this mix will do just that with some great noise from Yo La Tengo, Wavves, Crystal Stilts and Dananananaykroyd.

BEST OF 2009
Bliss Out

After letting out all the tears it's times to bliss out to Wilco, Gomez, Love Language, Bon Iver and some XX.

BEST OF 2009
Alligator Tears

End of the year time, and i'm going all out with a whopping 10 "mini" best-of podcasts! First up we start a bit sad with some alligator tears featuring Tegan and Sara along with Camera Obscura, Monsters of Folk and Regina Spektor to name a few. Don't forget the tissues for this set.

BEST OF 2009
August

So, i've been really getting into 7" singles lately. They are a blast to sort through at the record store, especially when you take a chance on something you've never heard of. The first half of August's podcast is chalk full of 7"'s, starting with a Jack White song he recorded durring the filming of the great documentary It Might Get Loud. Then we've got some slumberland artists, the Crystal Stilts, Neverever and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Also on this month's mix is new stuff from Jay reatard, Joe Pernice and Art Brut. I do love me some DC comics and Chocolate milkshakes, hits just the right spot on a warm August evening.

BEST OF 2009
July

July brings back a bunch of old favorites with brand new music. Eels, Death Cab, Dave Matthews, Wilco, Modest Mouse and Regina Spektor all have new albums or ep's out. My favorite of the bunch is probably the new Eels record, Hombre Lobo, which revolves around a werewolf. But don't worry, there is new stuff too. Another great single by Passion Pit, and another by the Dead Weather, who keep putting out great singles. And a great new find - An Horse which i'm lovin' at the moment. Enjoy the new and the old at the mid point of the summer.

2009 BEST OF THE FIRST ½
PART 1 • PART 2

WOW! Talk about a great 6 months of music! Outstanding albums from Camera Obscura, Eels, Neko Case and the Silversun Pickups. Plus a whole bunch of great noise pop that I've just fell in love with this year - Telekinesis!, The Love Language, Japandroids, Glasvegas and the Wavves. But standing on top of this mountain of great music is the Boy Least Likely To's The Law of the Playground - my favorite album of the year so far. But who knows what's in store in the second half - here's to tough year-end compilation decisions come December!

BEST OF 2009
May

May is when things really start heating up - with Jack White's new band the Dead Weather, a new Green Day album, and the power pop supergroup Tinted Windows. But the real discover this month is the new album Fantasies from Metric, featuring possibly the song of the year so far - Stadium Love. So stay cool listening to some great summer tunes.

BEST OF 2009
April

April is all about Coachella, as you can see by the awesome pic I took of miss Jenny Lewis, and two bands I saw at this years fest are on the April mix - Silversun Pickups and Superchunk (both of whom were great live by the way). But also highlighting this months best of the best are some great noise/low-fi bands - Wavves, Telekinsis! and The Love Language. It was a great month for music, espcially with the return of Jason Lytle of Grandaddy fame, and a new full length from Camera Obscura. Enjoy!

MARCH

March, one of my favorite months of the year, if not the favorite, and the music did not disappoint. New albums from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Thermals, Bishop Allen and Junior Boys kicked ass. Plus, new discoveries from Jason Isbell, Psapp and the Obits. And, after many albums I just let fly by me, a Bonnie "Prince" Billy album finaly stuck. Mostly because of the awesome song 'Beware Your Only Friend' and the fact that Will Oldham guest dj'd NPR's All Songs Considered posdcast. Let these songs wash over you like the spring sun while lying in the grass catching a spring training game - that's what I did - you won't regret it.

FEBRUARY

February wasn't the avalanche of great music like January was, but it still had some great songs. From shoegazers The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, to the solo blues guitar work from the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, to the splendid new Neko Case Album there was plenty to be excited about. Plus, there is a sneak peak from Camera Obscura's new album coming in April with the single My Maudlin Career. February might be for lovers, but it's also for song lovers.

January 2009 had so much good music released it seems to have made 2008 irelevant already. From Animal Collective to Bon Iver to Glasvegas, there was just so many albums that I played over and over, here are the best of the best tracks from the first month of '09, and may the best have yet to come.

2008 BEST OF THE FIRST ½
COOL•NICE

The first half of 2008 has been excellent for new music, with new finds, old surprises and just solid songs galore! Biggest surprise - the return of REM, with the Monster-like album Accelerate. Continued excellence from Death Cab for Cutie is no surprise at all. And the best new find - The Submarines, beautiful indie pop that just, as I have said on many ocassions, makes me smile.

BEST OF 2007 - SET SEVEN
PLAYFUL•STYLISH•BOISTEROUS•VISCERAL

Starting out with echoing drums and ringing bells, the Shout Out Louds set the tone to this boisterous set. Next up is Avril with a steamy number followed by Winehouse's famous rehab song. Also highlighting this set are old favorites Spoon, Hot Hot Heat and Rilo Kiley. These are the pop songs that should be blaring out of radio stations all over the country. Full of style, simple lyrics to sing along with and hooks galore. Enjoy!

BEST OF 2007 - SET SIX
ROUSING•INDULGENT•LIVELY•CAREFREE

Time to get your butt out of your chair, get your feet moving and D.A.N.C.E.! Set six is all about letting loose and Los Campesinos are the perfect start. "The beats, yeah, they were coming out the speakers, And were winding up straight in your sneakers." Following close behind is Justice telling you to "do the dance!" And it's near impossible not to.

BEST OF 2007 - SET FIVE
ENERGETIC•RAUCOUS•FIERY•GUTSY•INTENSE

This rawkous set is kicked off by Jimmy Eat World's Big Casino and doesn't let up after that. Big guitars, thundering drums, pulsing base and choruses to shout out loud, that's what set five is all about. Don't forget to tune your air guitar before listening to this one.

BEST OF 2007 - SET FOUR
EXUBERANT•STYLISH•RAMBUNCTIOUS•BRASH

The best song of the year opens this set as LCD Soundsystem blow you away slowly, from the opening keyboard build-up, to the subsequent crashes, bangs and drums. And then Mr. Murphy starts singing about you, me, and growing old but still feeling young. Not to be outdone, the opeing track to the best album of the year follows with haunting vocals over crashing guitar that makes you want to get up and air guitar right with the band of horses.

BEST OF 2007 - SET THREE
PASSIONATE • DRAMATIC

'I feel it all' says Feist on her track with the same name, and she's not the only one. Some of the best songs come when the writer wears their emotions on their sleeve and the listener so very much relates. Love, pain, religion, friendship and more are explored with the songs on set three, where passion is the key.

BEST OF 2007 - SET TWO
DELICATE•INTIMATE•DREAMY•WISTFUL

Songs can be used in so many different ways, and for set two we are in dreamy mode. These songs at first simply wash over you, but then they start to get under your skin. They begin to pull at your heart, your soul and then your mind as you are whisked away to another land, another life where anything is possible. So cozy into a comfortable chair, slap on some headphones and let these songs roam free. We start first with Deer Tick which will set the mood perfectly, and on into Iron & Wine, Great Lake Swimmers and yes even a wonderful Radiohead song.

BEST OF 2007 - SET ONE
WITTY•PRECIOUS•QUIRKY•SWEET

So, how do you not think of sweet quirky indie pop when you see natalie portman’s face? Ever since she starred in garden state with zack braff and uttered the words “this song will change your life” when playing the shins ‘new slang’ this has been true. And, since the shins had a new (top 5) album out in 2007, they and natalie kick off this years best-of compilations with the song ‘sleeping lessons,’ a real builder that never fails to get my head a bobbin’ and my feet a tappin’.
